Cassidy Supports Republican Offshore Drilling Plan
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) voted for H.R. 6082, the “Congressional Replacement of President Obama’s Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan.” The plan rapidly increases drilling and responds to the Obama administration’s final 2012-2017 lease plan for offshore energy resources.
“The House Republican plan is a positive step for Louisiana and America. It schedules 29 lease sales throughout America for the next five years, including for the Gulf of Mexico. It re-opens drilling sites the President closed. Finally, it will generate $600 million inrevenues and create tens of thousands of jobs.
“With gas prices fluctuating and uncertainty in the global energy market, America should focus on developing its own resources. We will continue to press the President to embrace energy independence through the development of domestic oil and gas. Doing so is right for our economy and our security.”
